Chew

And I almost put this other one for the day I downloaded it. I didn't notice what these two were up to at the time, I was testing some things. However, this was the best surprise. This picture cracks me up!

December 26th

You may remember a story about the Urban Market and trying to take a picture of the Huevos Rancheros. Seems like the Urban Market is full of stories. We went back....we did. (we would have anyway, I suppose) We went back and a photographer we all know put her camera out on the table so the three of us would not forget to take a picture of the Huevos Rancheros. And then, Mother Nature started laughing. Because, at the exact moment these lovely and yummy Huevos Rancheros came out (don't you just want to climb through the computer and get some?):

The sky opened up, and SNOW!!!!! fell from it. SNOW!!!!!

Whatever. For a Western, Snow-loving, Florida-living girl, even that much snow was beyond pleasurable. As evidenced by the inability to turn back to the food I dream about. SNOW!

It lasted 9 minutes. My BIL from Minnesota has confirmed I'm nuts. But thanks to him, we got the Huevos Rancheros for posterity as well. At least he still loves me.

I'm beginning to think the Urban Market is in possession of magic fairy dust. And every once in awhile there is more than one pleasure a day.

Somebody is missing and I don't know where he was at this moment. That makes me sad and resolve to pay better attention.

Usually I just rely on the pictures to tell a story. This picture, however, has a story.
The Uptown Market is a newer restaurant here in Jax. My sister-in-law got us hooked on it. They make the most amazing breakfast food, especially their huevos rancheros. Of which I dream.
Friday night I went to bed hungry to begin with and I'd been dreaming of these huevos rancheros for the whole week to boot. So I was awake bright and early on Saturday morning bugging my husband out of bed. We rounded up all of his near family and headed off. There was one goal in mind. I was going to get my huevos rancheros, and I was going to remember to take a picture of it before I ate it.
You will notice that is not a picture of huevos rancheros. Because in the face of that wonderful dish...I inhaled and forgot.
The family urged me to go see if they would let me take a picture of another serving. To the chef's credit, he didn't laugh, he didn't blink, he just thought and then looked at the orders. There weren't any but he was sure there would be very soon.
Finally we had to give up waiting. I went and thanked the chef for his kindness. He offered to let me take a picture of another dish which was just as pretty, but understood that it wouldn't quite fit the bill. So I took a picture of the sign.
Maybe someday I'll get that picture of the beautiful food. Because as pretty as the sign is, as pretty as the dining room is, the food is WAY prettier. And as pretty as it is, it tastes even better.
